Driving Miss Sun Crazy

I have heard that that every time Toyota has a problem with their financial situation they tend to throw the idea of a solar powered hybrid at the consumer. I had looked into purchasing one of these awhile back, but the math didn’t work out.

I still drive my ol 98 Toyota at almost 210,000 miles. It is paid off and I only drive about 30 miles to and from work each day. When I had done the calculations – even gas had gone up to almost $3.50 a gallon and I drove 100 miles a day – it was still cheaper to continue with my non-car payment Toyota. Gas is currently ~1.60 a gallon so…. no Toyota Prius for me. I even looked at the so called Tax Breaks and it wasn’t worth it.

They say on this link http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-9725898-1.html?tag=mncol;txt that the solar kit can add as much as 29% additional fuel efficiency. Gosh, if they’d make this in a biodesiel format, drop the price a bit, they’d sell millions of these little bugars if equipped with solar kit.

I guess it has been happening for years though. There is always some story about some guy who invented some magical way to get car to run 100MPG that then gets quietly eaten by the oil companies. In this case, is it just the fear of returned vehicles from damaged

That’s one thing, this may be related to my Alamo plan I had thought of some time ago. Alamo Plan? Well sort of a disaster recovery plan for my self and family.

Really, lots of folks are saying we are running out of time in terms of various 2012 theories, Edgar Cayce earth change theories, and the like. I’m all about preparation, but I want to be somewhat practical as well. The other day I spied two interesting things that could be used in concert to create the ultimate Alamo plan should the Earth get a bit nervous and want to go into upheaval as many have been saying for a couple thousand years now.

Never mind earth changes – what about plain old economic collapse? Perhaps we should look at the ol’ USSR as a model. It took them a good 20 years and it is still a bit of a mess.

So my plan basically consists of acquiring at some point:

1. A Truck / Van with Biodiesel / Vegetable Oil Capability
2. If it is a truck, getting one of those cool little campers on the back.

The idea is fanned by a couple of requirements. No matter what happens I would still need transportation somehow, and I’d need somewhere somewhat secure to lay my head.

I don’t want to live in a tent and I’d like some fuel diversity. This is a plan forming in my mind so it needs some work. I’ve been practicing taking cold showers for bathing, so hopefully I won’t need a hot water heater in my planned disaster recovery portable home.

Another option is to get a pop up trailer / camper, but I expect that it would be cost prohibitive as a Personal Disaster Recovery option.

Meet us in the Clouds?

“After my departure there will arise the ignorant and the crafty, and many things will they ascribe unto Me that I never spake, and many things which I did speak will they withhold, but the day will come when the clouds (fog) shall be rolled away…” ~Jesus, The Essene Gospel of Peace

The rapture faction seems to always quote the various passages that discuss “meeting in the clouds”. Were these the clouds that were meant instead?

Go ye, then, into all the world and take possession of all lands in the name of the Pope. He who will not accept him as the Vicar of Jesus and his Vice-regent on earth, let him be accursed and exterminated.

~Oath of the Jesuit Order

I haven’t yet verified this last quote – so please check yourself first!

Never Met a Bad Mormon

Let me preface this with – honestly, I’ve never met what one might call a “bad” person in the Mormon faith. I found an interesting article though.

FATAL INHERITANCE: MORMON EUGENICS

by Linda Walker

My cousin Lucky and I were looking for four leaf clovers in the grass. The early blue summer sun warmed our backs, not too hot, just right. This weekend visit with my cousins was a perfect end to the school year. Soon Lucky’s sister, Julie, joined our lazy search for the magic clovers.

Many summer passed and Lucky, Julie and I all grew up to marry and start families of our own. Then, while still a young man, Lucky died of nephritis, the fatal family inheritance. Each family member in their own way carried the burden of Lucky’s failing kidneys. His father donated one of his own healthy kidneys, thus prolonging Lucky’s short adulthood with his wife and small children. Fear began to overwhelm me, for the future, and for my own son. Lucky was the first to die in my generation.

US”>I remembered the studies conducted on my brother and I as children at the University of Utah (U of U) when doctors pronounced us, a special and important family. In the l950’s, research doctors thought we were one of the few families in the world with this form of nephritis, known as Alport’s syndrome.[1] By l980, this theory changed dramatically as many other Utah families accepted the diagnosis. Our ancestral destiny meant we might give birth to sons who would die at maturity or daughters who would carry the trait to the next generation of sons. These defects could be life threatening like nephritis and spinal bifida, or merely debilitating like asthma. Childbirth would be fraught with despair and guilt for me and for many family members. We participated in the study but never received counseling regarding the results of this research. I never knew if I carried this deadly disease or if any preventative measures would halt its insidious march. This lack of information upset me as a child when to my fervent, “Why?” the tightlipped adult answer, “We don’t know”, seemed woefully inadequate. I promised myself to find out the truth when I grew up.

US”>When Lucky died my childish vow surfaced and I began to look into my family history for some answers. My great grandfather, like scores of English immigrants eager to escape a life of poverty, listened when Mormon missionaries offered passage to America in exchange for Mormon baptism. Soon he joined the Mormons in Zion, the new Promised Land, trading a life of mining for religious hope.

US”>A few years later Lucky’s sister, Julie, died of multiple sclerosis, also leaving a family of small children behind. Same family, second child, same period of life, a different fatal disease; was there a connection? My aunt and uncle outlived two of their five children and two more may have nephritis. What was going on in my Utah pioneer family? Surely, there were too many deaths. Could my childish intuition that, ‘the adults and doctors lips were sealed’, against my questions, involve family secrets; secrets relatives took to their graves rather than betray? Or was it true no one knew the answers, because they could not be known, because no one wanted to know?

US”>For the first time, the faith promoting stories about my great grandfather’s heroism for defying the federal government when they outlawed polygamy interested me. Family lore indicates he was a courageous fighter for religious freedom and found himself unjustly incarcerated for continuing his polygamy lifestyle after its outlaw by federal and state statute. Previously I paid little attention to Mormon history, rejecting that belief system primarily because of political differences with the Mormon leadership over civil rights and peace issues in the 1960’s. This great-grandfather married two sisters which meant the twenty-two known children were double cousins or as genetically similar as brother and sister. I began to think polygamy might be a genetically unsound marriage practice. Not only were there possibly too few fathers making it easier for defects to clump in the large interrelated kindred but succeeding generations of children from these isolated rural Mormon towns married within a few kindred as well. Throughout the world, most polygamy is exogamous, or breeding outside the group. Breeding within, as Mormons did, endogamous polygamy, is virtually never practiced. Had these defects clumped in my own family as it seemingly appeared to me?

US”>While discussing health problems at a family gathering with some of my cousins’ wives, we discovered astonishingly that three out of four of us, all polygamy descendants, had borne a son with a clubfoot. Fortunately, this genetic deformity is correctable with proper care, is also a common defect, but not that common. One outspoken Mormon matriarch who attended the same Sunday meeting for fifty years commented about the health of the polygamous descendants versus the monogamous descendants, “You see it in the obituaries. So many young people.” [2]

Another woman revealed how frustrated and angry she was over her brother’s death, a brother who died because of undiagnosed epilepsy, possibly needlessly. “My parents would never face it. First, he had a car accident during a seizure, yet they could not admit he was not perfect. While swimming he had another seizure and drowned. We are hierarchy children. The tendency is not to admit it if anything is wrong, since we are supposedly perfect.” [3]

The ‘hierarchy children’ are from the ‘elite’ first families of Mormonism and these families started polygamy in America. Nearly all the Mormon founding families were relatives, so the first polygamists enjoyed relations to different degrees when the divine experiment began. The Twelve Apostles of Mormonism then acted to increase this familial relationship by marrying other relatives until in 1877, at the end of Brigham Young’s reign as Mormon Prophet and King, the polygamous hierarchy became l00% interrelated.[4] D. Michael Quinn, former Brigham Young University Professor, states “The Mormon practice of polygamy enabled men to marry daughters, nieces, cousins, granddaughters and former wives of other General Authorities”. [5] Did this practice affect my family and other Mormon pioneer families adversely, possibly even in other momentous ways? Mormon folklore claims otherwise.

US”>Genetics is the study of how traits pass from parents to offspring. Epidemiology is the study of the spread, prevention and control of disease in a community or group of persons. Some people mistakenly think genetic disease encompasses only birth defects and this is far from the truth. Genetic disease can occur at any age including birth, onset of puberty, early adulthood, or middle age. Inherited diseases are extremely varied from protein metabolism to connective tissue problems to vital organ failure, and among the most expensive to manage financially both for the public and for the individual family. These diseases endure as the most difficult, time consuming, and emotionally traumatizing for everyone involved in the care of someone who will not improve, but worsen and die.

US”>The Mormons, well known for genealogical record keeping, maintain birth, marriage and death information at church libraries and now on the Internet.[6] Since polygamy remained a hidden and illegal practice, disguised family records occurred. The records of the marriages sealed at the Nauvoo Temple before the general exodus to Utah in the 1840’s, may be the most important ones of all; yet, these are stored in a vault, unavailable to researchers. During this early period, polygamy was practiced secretly by the Mormon leadership, men who covertly preached and expanded polygamy while publicly deceiving the general Mormon population about the practice. These wives sometimes became known, sometimes not. For instance, Quinn writes, “over twenty General Authorities were married to such lesser known wives” [7]. ‘Lesser known children’ hidden in families sympathetic to polygamists might remain ignorant of their genetic kinship. And the Genealogy Department advises genealogists to follow only their direct line; in this instance meaning only the wife who is their mother, not other wives of their father.[8] This is inadequate information for purposes of establishing the true incidence of consanguinity within a family or community.

US”>Genealogists and especially epidemiologists must be scrupulous in identifying all the wives and children of any polygamist man. Branches of the polygamist man’s family left out of the genealogy will change the incidence of common ancestors and potentially mask the true disease risk and incidence in the community. Gradually, I realized the practice of polygamy, especially in Mormondom, might be a prescription for genetic disease. People most at risk likely lived and married within the same small communities their ancestors founded. This seemed to apply in my own kindred because those of us who left Mormonism and married outsiders are less riddled with the deleterious genetic legacy than relatives who married within the ancestral Mormon gene pool.

Parents who share a common ancestor are consanguineous. Consanguinity causes aggregate clusters of deleterious genes to collect in families, which then express themselves as rare recessive disorders like nephritis, cystic fibrosis, biliary artesia, albinism, short stature and many others. Consanguinity also causes rare recessive disorders to mask as dominant. Consanguinity is a reason why families bear children of only one sex – all sons, or all daughters.

US”>Mormon Prophet Hebrew J. Grant determined to keep marrying until he found a woman to bear him living sons. He did not consider this lack of sons might be his genetic inheritance, not his multiple wives. Current scientific knowledge indicates Grant’s lack of sons resulted from his own genetic defect, since only men carry the male Y chromosome to make a son.[9]

US”>Another problem in polygamy is a man’s breeding years are expanded sometimes into his eighties by the taking of new wives. As people age the chances of children inheriting mutant genes increases. Readily accepted as a problem among mothers past the age of thirty-five, it is rarely discussed as a problem when fathers are over thirty-five, let alone eighty.

Sterility is another consequence of consanguinity and the evidence of many sterile polygamous wives is overwhelming. The adoption of children among family members sometimes disguised sterility. This is a humane coping strategy devised to deal with a dilemma that devastated a woman taught from birth her only value was in the number of children she bore for the Kingdom of God. Yet, this practice may hide the actual genetic kinship and can further exacerbate genetic problems.

US”>Recently, another cousin fathered a child born with spinal bifida, inherited paralysis, an anomaly related to nephritis. He also married a woman descended from polygamy. This child belongs to a family branch that used to be in the U of U nephritis study. This branch, now living in Arizona, is no longer a part of the ongoing familial studies. Dropping a branch of this family from the studies may result in a reported disease incidence which is lower than family experience indicates. It appears my kinship group is suffering from clusters of rare recessive genes. Not one defect, but many.

US”>This gene cluster effect happens when people with common ancestors marry and bear children. Polygamy today is comprised of early Mormon polygamy descendants and these families are now interrelated by a factor impossible in monogamy. Evidence exists that this gene pool foments a genetic and human catastrophe. Mormons can now see why American citizens passed laws intended to stop polygamy, a relic of unwise prophecy, laws continuously disregarded in Utah, a state controlled by the Mormon Church, if they will only look. In addition, the Mormon Church touts itself as the quintessential traditional family values church, advertising via expensive television campaigns. They are quick to point out to reporters that they no longer practice polygamy and excommunicate members who continue to do so. This denial is hollow considering the record. They offer no support, no exit route, and no programs for the people trapped inside polygamy endeavoring to escape these closed polygamous communities, or compounds.[10]

US”>The discoveries and research within my own kindred so alarmed me that I studied other descendants of polygamy to see if their families also suffered from crippling illnesses. I am convinced they do. As bad as this past is, the mounting evidence is far worse. In 1991, I first became aware of the Latter Day Church of Christ (a.k.a. Kingston’s and The Davis County Cooperative Society), a Mormon polygamist offshoot and determined to interview within this virtually impenetrable closed polygamist group. One 1980’s leader, John Ortell Kingston, married thirteen wives and sired over sixty-five children, many of them deformed. His wives included five nieces. One disillusioned former member claims “babies are born as blobs of protoplasm”, and “brothers marry sisters in an effort to build up a royal priesthood.” [11] I endeavored to publish this information. Editors suggested it was unbelievable. If only that were true.

US”>Then in 1998, a 16 year-old girl limped seven miles to a pay phone and called police. Bruised, welts covering her body, and a broken nose, at first she was reluctant to speak with authorities. She told investigators her father took her to a remote area and belt whipped her for running away from a forced marriage to her uncle, her father’s brother, as his 15th wife. Removed from school like so many polygamy children, she told social workers she wanted to finish high school. [12]

US”>Finally exposed in the news, the facts of life inside this religious/cult compound are stunning Mormons, Utahns, the nation, and the world. Half and full siblings are ‘marrying’ in religious ceremonies. Escaped members report some patriarchs believe it is their duty to give a daughter her first marriage lessons. This is the equivalent of a religious rationalization for the practice of incest. [13] Buried quietly on family farms, without notice of birth or death, child death often remains undocumented in polygamy clans. Utah officials fall all over themselves in an effort to explain why they have done nothing before and what they now propose to do.[14] Unfortunately, the answer is clear as they embarrass themselves inventing new ways to say they will continue to do nothing and wait for the media to change the focus.

US”>Alongside the medical tragedy, other social and legal problems emerge. Currently, thousands of children are born into these closed authoritarian patriarchies. Indoctrinated from birth that they are better than others, exalted, and lacking outside education, understanding nothing about democracy; they not only believe government is corrupt, but then frequently use that rationalization to engage in fraud schemes that bilk the public. As early as 1985, John Ortell Kingston, in an out of court settlement agreed to pay $250,000 to the Utah Department of Recovery Services for child support. Four wives and at least 29 children collected hundreds of thousands of dollars in public assistance. Judgments entered for more than $100,000 against ten other Kingston clan members made on behalf of over 40 children. Recovery Services thinks this is a fraction of the money involved.[15]

US”>The Kingston clan is a fraud masquerading as a religion. A fraud scheme organized to promote the wealth of the Kingston men at the expense of all men, women and children who are not blood. There is no reason why law enforcement cannot dismantle this group by enforcing existing laws.

US”>Until quite recently, the Kingston leaders did not even pay wages to their captive members but paid them in script for working in the cult businesses. Members then used the script to purchase goods at clan owned stores. Reputedly, this cults net worth is over $300 million. It is certainly difficult to leave a cult that holds all the money, property and takes the children if you attempt to leave. Utah courts and social service agencies threaten or remove parental rights from women who want to leave polygamy and then give the children to other polygamous households.[16] What emerges from this record is a system that protects men and violates the rights of women to live in liberty, all supported by the Mormon Church.

US”>Throughout 1998 and 1999, the Salt Lake Tribune lifted the covers on the many crimes committed in polygamy. Using resources for a major expose; thus marking the first time news media reported this human and civil rights nightmare accurately since the 1850’s. News articles describing the incest within modern polygamy suggests these communities of forgotten people suffer horrifically.[17] This article focuses primarily on the genetic impact of polygamy; however, the reasons behind polygamy are frightening and misunderstood.

US”>These groups are white supremacists, and inbreeding is an essential doctrine in keeping the bloodline pure.[18] Convinced they are breeding a pure white master race; they blame the mother if a deformed baby is born, then preach she was unrighteous or unclean. It is these discredited ideas that foster this genetic legacy. Early polygamy was rife with incestuous and eugenic ideas and practices as well. Brigham Young, the second Mormon leader, preached, “The time is coming when the Lord is going to raise a holy nation…a royal priesthood upon the earth, and he has introduced a plurality of wives for that express purpose.” [19]

US”>Every person carries some lethal genes. Most populations outbreed and so these lethal genes rarely match to cause any serious diseases. When a group inbreeds, as polygamists have, more and more lethal gene matches occur. Children inherit disabling illnesses. Child life is destroyed.

US”>Some family members and Utah geneticists disagree with these conclusions. I think I owe my children and all children who risk becoming the next unwitting victims of this tragic genetic legacy, the best information regarding the prevention of this lethal family inheritance that I can find. Thus, over the first fifty years of Mormonism, a highly inbred hierarchy became even more inbred through their illegal marriage and childbirth practices. At the time this inbreeding took place these prophets preached and practiced modern ‘eugenic science’, the science of controlling the traits of future populations through selective breeding for idealized traits like blond hair, blue eyes, and tall stature. One hundred years later, eugenics is a discredited science, yet some followers still believe. Historian B. H. Roberts, notes an eugenic attitude regarding polygamy:

US”>

It was in the name of a divinely ordered species of eugenics that Latter Day Saints accepted the revelation which included a plurality of wives. Polygamy would have afforded the opportunity of producing from that consecrated fatherhood and motherhood the improved type of man the world needs to reveal the highest possibilities of the race, that the day of the super man might come, and with him come also the redemption and betterment of the race. [20]

US”>It is important that Mormons fight the tendency to discount history and the actions of their leaders in favor of a faith promoting history while neglecting important facts. It is important the American public recognize that polygamy was outlawed for valid reasons; and not as apologists claim because of outmoded Victorian moral ideas. It is difficult to assess less than perfect family background when men are revered as ‘prophets,’ ‘apostles,’ and ‘kings.’ If descendants of polygamy do not look critically at the ideas of their ancestors, Utah children may be increasingly at risk. If two descendants of hierarchical polygamy marry, the chances for genetic defects increase if the families were ever interrelated. This means it may be genetically unwise for children of the early leaders to marry other children of early leaders, even now; yet, this tendency still exists in Mormonism.

One pediatrician at the U of U, stated he asks only, “Were your parents related?” This is not enough genetic background information to ascertain the facts regarding health risk and may be a reason why health statistics in Utah have significant errors. One newspaper article describes a baby with a disorder previously unseen, ulnar mammary syndrome.[21] Now a new disease classification enters the medical literature and a certainty that even more health care dollars will be allocated towards high tech solutions to preventable problems. These new disease classifications belong at the door of the Mormon Church leadership. They are coming out of polygamous communities proliferating in Utah because Mormons are unable to face their history or follow sound marriage and childbirth practices.

US”>Within Mormonism, large families are coveted and honored. Often these families do not have the resources to prosper. In polygamy this is exacerbated. Women do not have the freedom to consider how often she can give birth and maintain her health. Men make all decisions affecting her health. One nurse confided, “We see too many trisome l3 and l8 babies.” [22] This is a rare disorder and medical descriptions of trisome infants are too dreadful to describe here. These babies usually do not leave the hospital and die as infants.

US”>This nurse has a polygamous background, so does her husband. Three of their children suffer from serious inherited disorders. One child born with an incomplete liver died. If both parents are descendants of polygamy, the children may be at even greater risk. These disturbing accounts offer a look inside the lives of some early Mormon descendants. They can be dismissed as merely anecdotal. It takes maturity to face the truth, especially if the truth is painful and challenges the family tradition and religious belief structure.

Utah news articles often feature geneticists’ and the LDS Church furthering science by applying modern genetic analysis to the vast genealogical database. It is likely flawed. These same articles suggest the Utah population is healthier than similar non-Mormon populations. Mormon descendants of monogamy are probably healthier than a similar non-Mormon population because of their good health habits. I doubt Mormon descendants of polygamy are healthier than non-Mormons. Many of these articles read more like public relations than news. The news may be that descendants of polygamy are at greater genetic risk than the average population, especially if any direct relative was a member of the Mormon hierarchy.

US”>In early 1990, the incidence of nephritis in the general population was revised from an l in l0, 000 incidence to l in 5,000. There are a limited number of health care dollars. The allocation of those dollars is a public issue. Prevention is a more humane and cost effective way to manage these catastrophic illnesses, than the current medical emphasis on technological cure. I am not against curative measures, just the current emphasis. One nephrologist at the U of U admitted to me, “You may be right.” With medical grants, careers, and tenure to be lost, few doctors will risk raising the most difficult questions. When ancestors are revered as prophets and kings, it is difficult to admit or examine the possibility of this legacy.

US”> For us parents the future health and happiness of ourselves, our children and grandchildren are at stake. We cannot afford to neglect the possibility our ancestors practiced a form of marriage that was unhealthy and debilitating to our children, to us, and to society. The Salt Lake Tribune focused on one polygamist group, The Latter Day Church of Christ, a.k.a. Kingston’s, this past year. The information about this group is outrageous and shocking. It would be nice to think this is the only incidence of a polygamist group practicing incest as a religious rite. Unfortunately, that is not so. There are many similar outlaw groups in Utah and surrounding states. This is why the state and federal government enacted legislation against polygamy. This is why those laws need to be enforced. To date Mormons have only paid lip service to stopping polygamy.

Linda Walker started Child Protection Project, a web site dedicated to exposing this institutionalized incest and child abuse. Linda works as a legal consultant on civil cases involving child abuse and the church. This essay was written in the fall of 1991 and updated summer of 1999.

Linguistic Omphaloskepsis

Ramble on….this post is going to be multi-layered and blend two-three threads at once like a bad Tarantino flick. I hope you can keep up.

Awhile back when I had turned into a Bible superhero I had decided to learn Hebrew, the language behind our modern day Bibles. There is so much more color and form in the Hebrew than there is English. Sort of like Ravioli out of a can vs. Ravioli at a 5 star restaurant. Just more flavor ya know?

I would recall reading something in English and kind of going …. yawn on some of the stuff – particularly the geneaology. However, unlike English – in Hebrew every name has meaning. Think Dances with Wolves for a second to get the idea.

In addition, even though English is the lingua franca now a days, I also wanted to learn other languages – Czech for example – so I could really impress a bunch of old beer slamming men from my home town. I had a strong suspicion that Hebrew would help with learning other languages. Just call it a gut instinct – something to do with there perhaps being a pre-Atlantean language that was largely unified.

I started out by working on the Hebrew alphabet and what not. Then eventually realized – this ain’t happening. It will take me forever to learn the language this way. It doesn’t work the way my brain works.

I found something called the Ancient Hebrew Research Center. After reviewing the materials I found out the basis for much of our language makes sense. It almost looks like the Hebrew language was architected even rather than going through evolutionary cycles. Most of it …. makes sense unlike English which seems to have 100000000 gaziliion million trillion arbitrarily defined rules for engagement and spelling.

As I continued this path, I found a book calle “The Word”. It is a Hebrew-English dictionary with a twist. It looks at the Hebrew roots behind the English word.

To get a better understanding – in the King James – it talks about he mercy seat over the ark of the covenant. Some of you may remember the Ark from one of the Indiana Jones flicks. The word behind the Mercy seat was the Hebrew word KPHR – KOPHAR …. or … our English word  “Cover”.

Well, it seems that much of our language indeed most languages can trace their ancestry to common roots I am starting to discover. What this means is that I can leverage this to learn the basis languages – Hebrew, Indian, perhaps a bit ancient Greek, and Egyptian here and there to learn other languages.

As I continue down this path, I find myself developing a rather sad yet curious ability. You may recall the movie Star Gate and the scientist named Daniel Jackson who could read various ancient (ancient -from the Hebrew word NOSHUN or NOSHENET!!) languages. Well, as I browse the internet looking at various ancient texts / artifacts I find myself able to “read” to some degree what would otherwise look like gibberish from old rock paintings and what not. I find it somewhat surreal. Whoooahh… I’m reading freakin proto-Hebrew script. How exactly did I get here again?

This is truly amazing though if you stop and think about. If one puts ones mind to it, the Internet has allowed commoners like me to learn ancient languages if they so choose in a reasonable amount of time.  I imagine previously that one would have had to decide to be in a career along those lines.

For my next project, I plan to learn Egyptian Heiroglyphs. Maybe not. Actually, I did start looking into that and found that I may be able to link some Hebrew to ancient Egyptian. Our word for hour, for example, comes from the Egyptian God Horus.

Where does this start to glue together into the big picture of my search for the inner kingdom? Well, you see I have discovered Christian linkages to the ancient savior gods going all the way back to Egypt. That troubled me at one point, but then I found other things. At this point I have concluded that our beloved Jesus was real, but the Romans stole him and turned him into a pagan god at some point. Until I get into the inner kingdom that lies within, I have to rely sole on my analytical abilities.

The thing is – even the pagan god stories were often allegory for deeper truths that talk about how our minds work and how to grow spiritually – yet in the olden days the priests kept all the good stuff to themselves. That was what was so big about Jesus. He usurped that whole system. It used to be that the priests would have these temple prostitutes getting nailed by men… sucking out their vital life force (look up new age stuff) and then use it themselves to control various nature gods…  so what is wild… and this totally freaks out my western mind .. is that there were actual entities running around that could be controlled and what not.

There are even places today in certain parts of Ireland where similar stuff – minus the prostitution – still works on crops and what not. I guess it is the “belief” / intention that gives the life force away into this world and allows the prayers to impact this world to some degree. I always wondered why someone could pray to Buddha or the Dali Lhama and still get results.

Anyway, as part of my search to gain a better understanding of these things I felt it would be necessary to understand ancient cultures. The god Jupiter wasn’t about a god named jupiter to the inner circle of cool kids, but instead a part of our own mind and perhaps even…. the higher self… that bright tunnel of light often mentioned in near death experiences. You get it ? Allegory for deeper stuff that is actually within? Have you ever thought about where your thoughts come from?  I have. Think about it. Really… where do they come from? Are they random? Are they a function of electrical signals? You’re tuning out… please .. hang with me a bit longer…..

Now let me tell you about another experience. When I was in college I recall cruising through a library at break neck speed. All of a sudden…… something told me to STOP. I did…and as I turned to the right…. there it was.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead.

It freaked me out a bit. Puzzled. What is this nonsense. Why am I suddenly stopping here? Where did that thought come from? Puzzled. I look at it. I have fear. The book stares at me. I flashback to high school for a minute.

A classmate of mine from high-school used to discuss this book with me – her name was Theresa. We would joke about this particular book for some reason. It was a joke then, but here was this joke suddenly coming into the fore front of my mind again out of nowhere. I recall us labelling this particular work as being evil and I have no idea why. It was what we were taught I suppose.

Puzzled again… I cruise on and think about this book no more for about 10 years, but here I am trying to uncover the 10 commandments and lo and behold… I find linkage to the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Great. I’m thinking… okay either everything I have been told is a lie or… there is an even bigger picture. So I investigate.

It is a much bigger picture than I could possibly imagine, yet after much investigation.. within a short while.. I very quickly realize that it would take many many many lifetimes to get the answers I seek using this approach. My approach is flawed. I need a bigger brain and faster reading ability to pull this off… or I need to tap into something bigger. I decide the latter approach is the best. If Jesus could read minds, why can’t I dang it. He said we would do greater things anyway. Don’t put baby in a corner.

This whole Book of the Dead thing.

I start to connect the dots from my childhood…  questions… questions … why some people are born with a “calling” and others are not. Why are some born with psychic gifts and others are not. Why is there always one moron in every class?

The picture is forming. I was a student of astronomy from a young age. In kindergarten I could explain the water vapor cycle and by 2nd great was explaining the intricacies of red and white blood cells to my aunts who were 10 years my senior.

I started analyzing my past. As a child it would have been more pure. These thoughts I have now… they are impacted and often shaped by what I have been taught, experienced, read, or seen on TV perhaps. As a child it is pure. I figure that some of it must have come from whatever former lives I may have had, but still can’t remember. I mean really…. what on God’s green earth would cause a 5 year old to want to learn about astronomy of all things? It doesn’t add up. My dad wasn’t into that nor was anyone I knew. It seemed random. Why did I decide to learn the Greek alphabet and study other ancient alphabets as a kid? You see what I’m getting at? It doesn’t make sense for a kid in this culture to be almost drawn to stuff like that like a bug to a light bulb.

I start going through various memories and the dots start coming together. This whole search for truth I have been on for the last 2.5 years starts to make sense as I connect all the dots… sort of like realizing that the basis for your native tongue is actually Hebrew though very few know this. I recall seemingly small events that shaped where I am today.

These lifetime type events spiralling into my now, are now occurring on a daily basis. Those dots formed over my entire life now seem to happen almost daily.

Synchroncity is the term. Out of the blue coincidences that seem ordained from somewhere beyond this world.

I have a friend of mine that happens to have synchronicity events whenever she converses with me for an extended period. In the new age they might say that we are vibrationally similar or something. Anyway, this friend tells me that now events in her life are happening in a synchronistic fashion. That is … out of the blue coincidences that most of us tend to ignore. Well, if you start to pay attention to them instead of just going.. that was weird….. stuff can start happening. By stuff, I mean weird coincidences that get you started towards your purpose in life – your calling as it were.

Just for examples, and this is on the level of  parlor tricks…..but… this is what I have gotten so far:

I called a dolphin. What you say? Yes I did. The hell you say. For proof, It’s on film. I was at Sea World with my kids. There are dolphins, but I want one to come up close for my kids. The dolphins keep going round and round but won’t come up. There are hundreds of people around the pool where they are at. I say to myself. I wonder if I can call the Dolphin using my mind powers. It’s worth a shot and it’s not like anyone is ever going to know about this (until now) and think I’m crazy. Let it go……. let go… let’s try this.

So.. in my mind, I picture the dolphins coming over to my kids and then I starting saying… “here dolphin dolphin dolphin” in my head. A couple minutes later…. one dolphin comes up and hangs out by my kids….. just my kids… for like 5 minutes. It was long enough for me to wonder if it was going to leave sort of like massive head wound harry of the Saturday night live ilk.

On the way home…. I’m thinking… whatever man.. that was just coincidence. Trying to talk myself out of it. It was just chance. That’s the ego talking I guess.

So I decided to perform a little thought experiment again. My kids are in the back of the car… and I start saying to my son in my head… Candy. Candy. Candy.

Over and over I say this to him…. in my head. I try to go easy with it. Don’t force it. Let it go.

A minute later…. Daddy… pull over I want some candy.

I caution you. He hasn’t ever done this.

Where did my son’s thought come from? Was it random? Was the Dolphin random? What about the Egyptian Book of the Dead?

For the record and so that this is balanced, I also tried “Brocolli Brocolli”, but he didn’t say “Daddy pull over and get me some Brocolli”, so take it for what it is worth. I do know that he has never done that though. Maybe he was vibrationally aligned with candy 🙂

This is where the plot thickens. Stuff like this is natural for all of us I have read; however, we have been taught to dismiss it. As though… the universe isn’t in the mind of God anyway.

Well, as we look at the scriptures.. in a variety of religious platforms we start to realize…. they are all saying the same thing just differently. For the Jesus crowd, think of it differently… yes Jesus was real, but…. the scriptures had enough mishistory to make one question. Jesus was a Nazirine… it was a vow….. not a town yo. Look it up. Anyway, Jesus would have been allegory on some levels for the prophet within you…. that God spark within all of us see?

When you start to really zoom in, we will find that our minds start to open and stuff like my fun with the Dolphins is a byproduct of that at times.  I now know why I had a strange affinity for the Miami Dolphins when I was younger 🙂

At this point, if you are traditional / fundamentalists – you may have alarm bells going off, yet there is a part of you that is longing to know more. A sort of internal conflict if you will. I can relate what I describe as a fear of this stuff at first. Do not go near the forbidden zone as in Planet of the Apes. Yet, the more I dig… the more exciting this becomes and the more boring regular life becomes. Jesus had said that he came to bring us life… and life abundantly. I think this is a start. do you think he was lying? What about the mysteries Paul was referring to? What about the milk of the gospel?

Yet, we must live in the world, but be apart from it. I’m thinking that means with each moment – play out the role you are in, but… think about each choice… consciously. Think. Love.

Are those your thoughts or did they come from somewhere else?

Something to think about anyway.

Hands Solo

Today I have a difficult subject. Over the last year or so – I have learned that with difficult subjects – one must build a bit of a buffer in communication because not everyone can handle unfiltered communication. This is true with my wife at present and so I am applying this communication concept here as an example.

Stated another way – I have learned over the last few weeks when writing to be more sensitive to folks because all of us don’t always shoot from the hip – so pardon the pun for what is coming.

Today’s subject is of such a personal and private matter – yet I feel it is important and at the risk of sounding crass and exposing private matters. I think it would be important for would be marriage restoration folks and seekers of spiritual truths which is why I bring it up. I have looked all over the Internet for this and have not found a satisfactory answer. Hopefully, this does not become my 15 minutes of fame.

Anyway – two – three years ago – I would have taken the world’s stance on this, yet now like so many other things am beginning to understand that many physical things are just allegory for something much much deeper within whatever spiritual planes exist out there.

For God’s sake – what are you planning to talk about Shohn?

Here goes… and brace yourself.

The old adage about masturbation causing blindness may be true on some levels I have recently discovered. This is an embarrassing and taboo topic; however, one that I think doesn’t get necessary attention.

From a practical level, I have mentioned for some time that my wife and I are currently separated (she has been much much nicer in recent weeks though and told one of my daughters that she loves me – yaaay!). Still though – that means no making love for me, which is hard for me because I seem to like that as much as Austin Powers – yet I’m trying to be pure and what not so I can get my marriage back together somehow.

So… and gosh this is embarassing….that means no / limited relieving myself of sexual frustrations as well since I am seeking to enter into the narrow gate if one were to read the Bible from an esoteric point of view. Esoteric or not, I wouldn’t want to walk up on Jesus playing with the monkey since he is the model we should strive for….. he shows us the Way.

Let’s take our traditional Bible hat off for a second and think spiritually and allegorically. 12 tribes . 12 zodiac signs. 7 notes in an octave. 7 major “chakra” – look it up.  Now imagine for a second that YOU are actually a projection of your soul – that being of light described in near death experiences – like a movie being put on a screen or a shadow of a tree….what the new age calls the higher self perhaps – into this place called earth. That you are just reflection of your soul… the higher self. Okay.. that means you are light and you would hopefully want to grow the light… and not lose the light.

I started looking into this some more in terms of spirituality and what not. As I understand it, spiritually speaking – the very act (e.g., spanking the monkey) considered so humorous in many circles of today’s culture CAN result in a tremendous loss of spiritual light and energy for a man if ejaculation is not done inside of a woman – and ideally – that woman should be one’s wife who hasn’t been defiled.

I said ideally. You have to play the cards you were dealt I guess.  I certainly wasn’t perfect; however, I have read that with a proper amount of knowledge of spirituality such problems can be overcome with true soul mates though they are rare.

Anyway, if a man is ejaculating inside a woman, the net spiritual energy loss is zero – the positive and negative cancel out -  BUT can be used to raise one’s light / energy if the woman has the ability to channel the energy back to you through the ol’ chakra system. If you don’t know what the chakra are, then look it up yo.
For the same reason that men are often fascinated by woman’s breasts (they are negatively charged in that area just as they can be positively charged in the umm pelvic region) – apparently the energy can be bounced back by a qualified woman – hopefully one that hasn’t been defiled by multiple partners for one seeking greater spiritual growth and entering into the narrow gate within.

From a world perspective this seems to make sense. Just look up some stats on pre-marital sex vs. divorce rate etc. Look up stats on divorce rates for the second, third, and fourth marriages. God has reasons for the rules apparently.

Invariably, one may try to justify the act as “healthy” or “normal”. Even a judicious search of Bible passages for the aspiring Christian attempting to justify their beliefs may reveal Leviticus 15:6 which seems to be a an allusion to what is considered a “natural” act by today’s standard – yet the translators seem to have taken some liberal license with this.  The reason I say it an allusion is that there are two parallel passages – one for with a woman and one without. I am NOT a translator though – so what do I know.
Lev 15:16  And if any man’s seed of copulation go out from him, then he shall bathe all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the even.
Lev 15:17  And every garment, and every skin, whereon is the seed of copulation, shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the even.
Lev 15:18  The woman also with whom a man shall lie with seed of copulation, they shall both bathe themselves in water, and be unclean until the even.
Continuuing though – “Natural”. Yes, I imagine that for those not yet seeking to purify themselves then it would be natural remembering that we seem to be part animal and part something else.

Now understand that I’m not saying that sex or even masturbation is evil per se, but rather if abused it can result in a tremendous amount of harm or stunt one’s spiritual growth and if one is not aware of how the light / chakra work – well one could lose a lot of light.

There seem to be certain expectations of growth within the scriptures from what I can discern so far. If one were to review some of Moses’ laws – one might find that as one “enters” the land – becoming part of Israel, then the moral standards get raised – yet one can not push the standards on those outside of Israel but must allow them to grow as they can. Sort of like not expecting a kid to know how to drive. You may recall certain passages in Acts asking the new Gentile believes to:

Act 21:25  But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

I started a search on the internet to understand this better from a spiritual point of view. The Bible basically says … don’t do this and that, but doesn’t really explain WHY. That’s the part I was looking to better understand.

Well, I found this site which supposedly has research  that indicates that excessive masturbation or over sex can indeed result in all sorts of problems. Watch out for the $$ signs as usual though. He may just be pimping some product, but the information does sound plausible and would be in accordance with mother’s expert knowledge that they always seem to just intuitivley “know”.

I guess blindness may be one reason to knock it off if you are wrestling with things that ought not be messed with. How though to control the urge when one, as Austin Powers might say, starts to become randi? It ain’t easy I suppose, especially for guys.
Well supposedly, there are ways to stop such calls of nature using tantric yoga. Supposedly sitting full lotus makes it go away. Goodie. Full lotus. That will take 5 years for me to be able to do.
I’ve got most of this worked out of my system for now, but I still have blood coarsing through my veins so it could still become a problem. That’s not the real reason why I looked into this though. I’m trying to do what is called channeling the sexual energy into spiritual energy or something like that during my meditation.
This is much easier to do with a woman as I mentioned early, but I don’t exactly have a woman right now for reflecting light back to me using the chakra so I was trying to figure out if there were other ways to grow the light through the lower chakra. I have read that a man has the ability to channel the sexual energy within as part of the meditative practices and instead of converting that energy into more seed for the sperm bank or magazine pages for normal guys, could instead be used to grow one’s light.

Purple Tomatoes – anthocyanins

Get don’t get all goofy, but apparently purple tomatoes with the health kick of a 1000 rhutabagas are in the lab being cooked up for someone’s consumption.

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2008/10October/Pages/Purpletomatoes.aspx

I wonder if these would be good for the ol’ third eye?

Now before you get too upset about this, realize that carrots used to be maroon or something back in the day. This was before Belgium decided that carrots needed to be orange as a show of national pride. I read that somewhere once.

Rabbid Weight Loss

Posted October 9th, 2008 by Shohn
Categories: Body, Food, Health

I have been working out off and on for about a month or so. I wanted to note the following as I proceed to the next phase of my goals – one of which is to lose weight and increase muscle and have a body like Van Damme by time I am 33. I am 31 now. Good luck with that you arrogant son of a gun… 🙂

Where am I today?

I adjusted a vegetarian diet back in May of 08. Back then I weighed about 210-215lbs. I call it a “fast” so I don’t freak people out. What do you mean you don’t want to eat dead animals? Is there something wrong with you? I could ask – have you ever looked one of these animals in the eyes as it was being killed? No? I didn’t think so – let me eat my rabbit food in peace please 🙂

I have been told my numerous individuals that I “look better” since doing the vegetarian thing; however, my weight is now come back up between 225-230lbs and I am not happy about this. 🙁

Digging far back into the ol’ mathematics memory bank, I decided that I needed to look at the body as a differential equation of sorts. It seems that relationships are much the same and I have noticed that many things in life tend to have analogies else where on how things really work behind the scenes. Relationship dynamics equations vs. body equations… perhaps similar to how there are equations in the electrical and mechanical world that are basically the same but just use different methods of representation… for example, a capacitor stores / dampens electrical energy and so does a compressed spring. You may remember physics from back in high-school that the equations for modeling eletrical and physical things are often very much the same even when looking at very different things. A spring and capacitor may be a  bad example, but I hope you get the point.

So, for some reason, ever since 3rd grade I have been over weight. I played outide, sports, worked, etc. yet was still overweight. I do know what started it – bologna sandwiches all summer long with a grandpa who thought I was starving even though mom fed us very balanced meals. Something then triggered either genetically or I somehow managed to reprogram my body to retain fat during that summer and it has been the same ever since. I am now 6 foot 1″ and am often referrred to as “big guy” due to the bulkiness of my muscles. Sheaaah.

Here we are though today. I look okay, but I’d like to improve the weight thing for health reasons and so that my wife will be irresistably drawn to my new van dam like appearance (yes tongue in cheek). Now don’t get me wrong, for the second time in my life – women are finding me attractive again. There seems to be some sweet spot right at about 220lbs where I start getting hit on. That’s not exactly what I want, but it does give the ego a little boost when I get down waiting on my beloved wife.

So… here is the goal, lose 30lbs by next summer. That means I need to somehow spend 105,000 calories by next summer if a pound of fat is 3500 cals. If I currently go with the 2200 calorie a day diet and shave off 1000 per day – that could put me at the desired loss in 100 days give or take provided that the burn rate remains constant. That’s the problem – the body adjusts as caloric intake is reduced. It’s all very simple actually – they teach stuff like this in engineering classes. Since the body then compensates by dropping the metabolic rate – perhaps there are ways to better lose weight than starving for a 100 days? You seeing some parallels with relationship dynamics yet? 🙂

Okay, is there another way? I’ve done the Atkins thing and it works for the first 20lbs or so until the body catches on. Ultimately, no matter what diet I try, or heck even since I have been exercising more and generally eating quite healthy – my body has still decided to convert bell peppers and brocoli into … fat. This may be analgous to the success with the marriage last year. There are still some underlying issues though that need to be solved. Time to break out the jack hammer and relay the foundation.

I suspect that what may be occurring is that due to the vegetarian thing, I probably had a loss in muscle – not that I had any muscle to start with other than being a big guy. This loss of muscle may have then allowed for less burning of energy maybe. In addition, my body was somehow reprogrammed to gain weight when I was a young man. It must be reprogrammed.

Firstly, to counteract the lack of protein – I started working out and ingesting something called whey protein. I’ve been told that I am looking thinner – though my weight does not reflect it. Did I somehow gain 15lbs of muscle over 5-6 months? I doubt it, though my strength did go up tremendously within the span of 2 months. I shall continue with this program; however, I need to make some adjustments.

I’m going to investigate the role of the thyroid gland in regulating weight gain / loss. I may look at extra iodine for the old’ thyroid.

I’m going to see about accupuncture treatment for weight loss. I had been doing accupuncture to help with my blood pressure. It concert with other holisitic healing thingies, it seems to have dropped my blood pressure by 30 points in about 3 weeks. Eat your heart out Dr. Jinx – Topral XL and Diovan is for the birds…. the body already had what it needed to drop the blood pressure and I hope the same is true because I really don’t want to starve myself for 100 days thus resulting in further lowering of my metabolic rate.

Beyond this, I’m going to see if I have any food allergies that may contribute to a lower metabolic rate.

That’s all for now. As of this writing I weight 230lbs. I would like to weigh about 200lbs. 215lbs seems to be my lower limit. I had gotten down to 205lbs at one point, but that was during the early stages of the divorce proceedings when I didn’t eat for like two months straight almost 🙂

Other things in the news… me and my mother in law have been doing Bible study together and she has been coaching me on a number of areas as far as better relating to women. Learning a lot still.

One effect is the emotional shutdown and clam up effect. I have known about this for about a year now, but unsure of how to deal with it. I’m still not sure if this is specific to women or not, but I’ll continue to investigate.

Blood Pressure Dropping Like A Rock

Posted October 6th, 2008 by Shohn
Categories: Body, Health

Well, I am  still not sure whether this is due to accupuncture or just synergies of the other things I am doing, but my blood pressure has been dropping like a rock. I have been keeping fairly detailed notes and below is a summary of what was done.
I started the Edgar Cayce diet which consists of largely raw vegetables. I’ve been vegetarian for about 5 months now, but this part was changed by switching to raw vegetables and adjusting to the balancing of Alkalai vs. Acid as suggested by Edgar. By the way, Edgar died at a relatively young age. Sometimes the cobbler’s children have no shoes?

I ate only Spirulina and whey as part of a 4.5 day fast to clear out the intestines. This also had the various enema and colonic cleansing herbs added to the mix.

I kept up my usual pattern of walking about 3 times each week for about 40 minutes with 40lbs of weights strapped to me to generate a sweat.

I had my back and neck adjusted.

Performed accupressure using emotional freedom technique.

Performed visualization exercises in the spirit of the law of atttraction.

I have two or three people praying for my heart.

I have a back massager thingy that I rigged up.

I have taken supplemental herbs particularly something called Hawthorn. There is another story for this I’ll describe later.

I’ve had three accupuncture treatments.  I go in for the 4th this coming Friday.

My “Doctor” advised me that the accupuncture can sometimes act as a catalyst and probably what happend was that it provided the final intertia for massive changes in my blood pressure.

What I can say is that after quitting smoking – my blood pressure actually went up.At the highest it was 180 over 116 or so.

After two weeks of holistic treatment – this morning it was 122 over 80 and is continuuing to trend downward.

This is without heart medication.

I was previously on Topral XL (50 mG) and Diovan (300 mG).  This got it down to 150 over 90. Gee whiz. I gave up on heart meds and tried natural instead. Without heart meds I could literally “feel” my blood pressure in the top of my head and in my heart. I am a young man still. Not good.

Now I can feel it going down – I like this method better.  Your mileage may vary.

Accupuncture – Second Treatment

Posted September 29th, 2008 by Shohn
Categories: Amusement, Body

So I went into the “doctor” for accupuncture this last Friday. The place had a wonderful energy to it. It just “feelt” good to be there, unlike a traditional doctor’s office. They perforated my body violently with little needles – well I couldn’t even feel them. The doctor checked my blood pressure before and after. It went up. Haha. He then tries to use the manual machine to suggest that the automatic is now lying. My skeptic radar starts to go off. Not good.

I am getting another treatment of accupuncture today for the ol’ bloodpressure.  The guy says he is going to treat some additional meridian points. No noticable effect after this weekend, but I’d like to continue this little experiment.

One of the things  I noticed in this particular chiropractic clinic is that they love to emphasize the word “doctor”. I will go get the “doctor”. The “doctor” will be with you shortly. It is very subtle, and perhaps I am projecting, but I sense the elevation of the word doctor because perhaps someone at this particular organization either has some insecurity about the dimensions of their reproductive organs or …. being called a doctor. I am not sure which.

Superfoods Rationing

Posted September 29th, 2008 by Shohn
Categories: Body, Fasting, Food, Health

I have been looking into options for emergency food rationing and what not over the last year or so. Not to freak out or anything, but apparently the US economy may take a hit or two in the coming year. My sources were right on the money with respect to coming changes in the oil price (down) and a big hit to occur in this month. I’m not saying the sky is falling, but that it is good to be prepared. Preparedness reduces worry in my opinion. To do this, I had to develop a strategy.

One of the things  that comes to mind, is reducing the necessary caloric intake and allowing the body to operate more efficiently and reducing the storage required for emergency rations. I read one report of a man who could survive on water and 9 grams of pond scum each day. I also found sources for cheese and learned on the history channel that cheese can be stored for long periods of time.

So just in case Kroger’s runs out of milk – I figured it would be good to get some emergency rations. I didn’t want to stock the garage full of powdered milk and pinto beans so I looked for a possible alternative – although I do have gallons upon gallons of beans, rice, flour, and various staples stored up. The alternative is called Spurilina.

Spurilina is some sort of dried algae (pond scum) that is supposed to be very high in protien and nutrients that a lot of us under nutrioned but obese Americans are missing. So, I figured I would test out this susbstance not unlike how I am testing accupuncture. I need a test subject…. any volunteers? Me me me as usual is the only volunteer.

I have already been fasting for two days now for another purpose, but did have a shot of whey powder with water yesterday because I didn’t want to give up my strength increases from weight training. I felt that this was cheating a bit though. It was only an ounce of whey powder, but still. This is for spiritual purposes and I need my stomach empty.

I plan to try this spurilina stuff as a fasting supplement and see what it does to my health. It doesn’t look very filling which  should work out okay with my fast. They say it “reverses” cancer. I don’t know about all that, but maybe it will help my hypertension. I also read that when fasting, one should execute a detox otherwise there is no real benefit.

FYI – public service announcement be careful when fasting… when you come off – if you eat a lot of bad stuff (e.g., fried jalopeno sticks and Dr. Pepper) or don’t slowly come back – you can shock your body and the next time you fast it will spend the whole time preparing for the shock instead of purging that cigarette you secretly smoked when you were seven.

Also, don’t avoid water. Drink lots of water. I once did a three day fast with no food or water. Turns out, that was a bad idea to go without water in more literature that I read.

A year ago, if you had told me I would be eating pond scum and water I would have told you are nuts. Times are a changin…. speaking of which, Rosh Hoshana starts tonight.

I really wanted to try out that ol’ Jewish tradition, but since I am fasting… I guess I’ll have to mentally eat an apple in honey. I’ll do that part later, but this coming evening is a time of newness…. the new year for some and hopefully for me.
